There certainly is! An ideal client is anybody ready for change and ready to take action. We work with clients who desire to put in the time and effort to make positive changes in their lives.
People sometimes mistake the terms psychiatrist and psychologist and tend to use them interchangeably. Though they both offer mental health services, the main difference between these two specialists is that the psychiatrist is trained as a medical doctor, specialised in the specific field of psychiatry, and can prescribe medications. Psychiatrists examine the neurochemical imbalances and somatic illnesses that can contribute to mental conditions, as this helps in differential diagnostics and treatment planning. Psychologists treat mental disorders with psychotherapy and can use psychological testing if trained in administering and interpreting specific inventories to support differential diagnosis, treatment planning and evaluation.

Our opening hours are from Sunday to Thursday and Saturdays, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. If you feel you are in crisis between these hours, you may contact our Clinic Coordinator to get an advisement from your treating specialist. If you have an urgent need after hours that can’t wait until the next business day, please go to your nearest healthcare provider for evaluation and advisement.

Flourishing Minds Clinic accepts physician’s referrals, though this is not a requirement to book a session. To schedule an appointment, contact the clinic at 59988875 or reception@fm.clinic, and the Clinic Coordinator will provide you with a free phone consultation to assess your needs and match you with the right therapist.

It is quite hard to pin down what makes up a competent therapist; the latest studies suggest a few areas to consider when assessing if specific therapist is a good fit and a skilled specialist.

Listed hereafter is a few aspects to keep in mind:

  • good active listening and communication skills in general,
  • proficiency in rapport building, skillfulness in exploration and normalisation of difficult feelings,
  • capacity to show empathy,
  • genuine care and warmth,
  • excellence in assessment and holistic approach,
  • competency in collaborative goal setting,
  • proficiency in problem formulation,
  • solution generation, and
  • intervention delivery.

In a multicultural setting, it is also good to keep in mind that your therapist abides by relevant local regulations and that they are offering culturally sensitive services.

Our services are primarily offered at our clinic situated in Lusail. We also offer sessions online for those unable to attend in person and carry out home visits based on individual requirements.
We are open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM every day of the week except Fridays – we are closed on Fridays and public holidays.
We offer therapy online and use the video-conferencing platform Zoom for any virtual sessions. However, your treating doctor/psychologist/therapist may determine that telepsychology is no longer appropriate due to unavoidable circumstances, in which case you will need to move to in-person or face-to-face sessions.
Your treating practitioner will discuss your treatment plan, objectives and expected treatment outcomes in detail with you following your initial session/s. Your treating specialist will use their expertise to help you better understand your patterns of behaviours, learn more about yourself and your situation, and help you gain a new perspective. You will walk away from sessions equipped with new skills you can use in your day-to-day life to achieve your goals.

Most people who participate in psychotherapy experience some benefits as it improves emotional and behavioural functioning and positively affects the brain and body. Actively involved in your sessions will benefit you and help you reframe your thoughts, feelings and/or behaviour. It is quite normal to experience discomfort or strong feelings of sadness, anger, fear, worry etc., while remembering or talking about unpleasant events, thoughts and related feelings. You can discuss your feelings with your treatment specialist in such cases.

Information shared with us, within sessions, and in the written record of your file are confidential and will not be disclosed to anyone without your written permission unless:

  1. it is required by law and/or is allowed by court order,
  2. the disclosure is required due to an emergency or there is a concern with regard to your personal safety or that of others.

In either case, the clinician will inform you if he/she has to put the above exceptions into effect.

All treatment plans and related costs will be discussed upfront during your initial visit or assessment, and payment for scheduled services will be due at the time of service/s rendered. We accept cash, bank transfers, and major credit/debit cards.
Sessions can be cancelled or changed anytime by notifying the Clinic Coordinator or your treating specialist in advance by phone or email at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment. Failing to do so will make you liable to pay the full session fee, which will be collected prior to or upon time of next service. This cancellation policy applies in all cases except during times of any emergency that prevents you from attending the session.
Your therapy cost may vary depending on the type of your treatment plan and the speciality of the therapist/s you see. Upon completing your initial assessment, you will receive a comprehensive treatment plan, schedule, and cost before proceeding.

We believe in accessible mental health care for all and offer sliding-scale therapy and other therapeutic alternatives to support you. We would be happy to discuss this on a case-to-case basis.

  1. What is sliding scale therapy?
Sliding-scale therapy is a flexible fee structure that provides an option to make therapy more affordable for people with a limited income. Sliding rates are based on factors such as: income, number of dependents, and other factors such as disability, chronic illness, or temporary unemployment. This would be for a limited number of sessions and is subject to management approval.
  2. What other alternatives are available?
Group therapy and support groups may be an option.
    1. Group therapy is a therapeutic approach that brings together individuals dealing with similar challenges/conditions. Each session is facilitated by our licensed psychologists, counselors, or therapists with experience in relevant fields who would lead, plan schedules and organize the group activities. There may be a waiting period as we would need to form a group based on individuals who are suitable and willing to engage in group therapy.
    2. Support groups brings together individuals who are experiencing or have experienced similar challenges. These groups may not always be led by a licensed clinician as the objective is to gain support, find ways to cope, and have a shared experience. There may be a waiting period as we would need to form a support group based on similar experiences/themes.
Flourishing Minds Clinic does not directly bill insurance. Most insurance providers don’t cover all services provided at the clinic, and by choosing not to run as an insurance-based model, we are able to be more client-centred and have the freedom to tailor your treatment plan according to your individual needs with regards to different types, scopes and lengths of care. We do, however, offer assistance in terms of filing your insurance claims. Should you require it, at the end of the evaluation, you will be given a “walk-out statement” containing applicable diagnosis and billing codes, which can then be submitted to insurance companies for possible out-of-network reimbursement. If you have any questions about health insurance acceptance or covered services, please get in touch with us.
